La Notte Della Tarantela fest. Stewart Copeland
Having achieved worldwide success as a member of Police, Stewart Copeland put his pop-music past behind him and set out on a career as a composer during the course of which he has written a number of sound tracks, operas and ballets.

Born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, he spent part of his youth in the Middle East but went to university in California before emigrating to England in 1975 and joining the progressive rock band Curved Air as drummer. After the band split up, he founded the legendary Police together with vocalist and bassist Sting and guitarist Henri Padovani (who was later replaced by Andy Summers). His many years as a member of Police served to demonstrate his quality and talent and today Copeland is considered one of the world’s top drummers.
At this year’s MED Festival, Stewart Copeland will be in charge of the La Notte della Taranta orchestra, a project whose roots lie in Salento and Salentine Greece and which aims to divulge the region’s popular music culture. This will be the closing performance of the 2009 MED Festival and can be seen on the Matriz Stage on the 28th of June.
