Roy Paci’s first contact with music was the piano. At the age of 10, he began playing trumpet and three years later he was already sufficiently adept to be playing in two well-known bands, the Hot Jazz Orchestra from Augusta and the New Royal Big Band from Catania. From there on, there was no doubt that he would follow a full-time career in music.

In the early 1990s, he moved to South America, where he was exposed to other Latin rhythms as a member of the Argentina Big Band. In 1998, he became acquainted with Mau Mau (Fabio Barovero), who was to become a friend, and together they launched a new music band called “Banda Ionica”. The two musicians would become immortalised in the eyes of the Italian public with their work “Passione”, the most important compilation of funeral marches in Southern Italy.

Never a man to rest on his laurels, in the same year Roy Paci formed the quartet “Zu”, with three members of the band “Gronge” (Rome), whose début work, “Bromio”, was dubbed “vanguard jazz” by the critics.

From 1991 to 2001, Roy Paci continued his work with Banda Ionica and recorded an album with well-known artists such as Manu Chao (with whom he recorded “Próxima Estación… Esperanza”) and Macaco (in a contribution to “Rumbo Submarion”).

Roy Paci & Aretuska is his first solo project and he works on it alongside young Sicilian musicians. Authors of four recorded works, Roy Paci & Aretuska reached the top of the Italian music charts with “Suonoglobal”, their latest album, in which well-known names from the world of music, including Manu Chao, also participated.
