Flamenco, but just a little…
Born in Ceuta, La Shica began her artistic career as a dancer. Not until she was an adult did she decide to follow what she believes to be her true vocation: singing. She shaved her hair, chose daring and original attire and adopted the personality La Shica.
|
Her début album, “Trabajito de Chinos” was acclaimed by the critics and earned her a reputation as one of the most enthusiastic and talented representatives of the new generation of “urban flamenco”. Her songs merge street rhythms such as rap and hip hop with the more traditional Spanish genre of flamenco.
Contrary to what one might think, La Shica’s performances do not take place in intimate venues for restricted audiences. Assuming what the specialists call a punk attitude, La Shica takes to the stage in large halls, accompanied by a vast team of musicians and dancers, with passionate performances, elaborate lighting and unrivalled choreography.
In this, her Portuguese première, La Shica will assume the responsibility of being the opening performer at the 2008 Med Festival, when she takes to the stage at 9.30pm on the 25th of June.
