The fado that’s not sad Taking their inspiration from a different music-making concept, Deolinda are currently considered one of the most original Portuguese bands.

The group comprises four musicians from widely differing backgrounds who admit to singing fado but go well beyond the boundaries of the genre. They focus on a fusion of more popular or ethnic rhythms with other firmly established genres such as jazz or classical music.

Led by Ana Bacalhau, the group launched its début album “Canção Ao Lado” at the end of April and chose St. George’s Cinema (Cinema S. Jorge) as the venue for the presentation of their musical project, which went straight to the top of the national sales charts.

Deolinda’s Med Festival performance is scheduled for 9.30pm on Friday the 27th of June.
